Adults with Parkinson's disease and some other neurological illnesses are more prone to having dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.

Patients recovering from heart attacks and strokes and some people with weak immune systems may also have dandruff more often than other people.

 

6) Reaction to hair or skin care products

Home remedies for Dandruff

 

Curd/yogurt

Take a small amount (enough to make a mask for your hair) of white sour curd or yogurt and leave it in the open for a day or two for fermentation. Whisk the curd and apply it to your scalp and hair like a mask and leave it on for an hour. Rinse it thoroughly with a mild shampoo.

The acidic quality of the curd not only helps combat dandruff, but conditions it to give it a shiny, soft texture.

 

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice contains acids that fight the fungi that can cause dandruff. It also helps relieve itching on the scalp. Mix the juice of half a lemon in one-quarter cup of plain yogurt.

Apply it on your hair and scalp. Leave it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing it off and shampooing your hair. Repeat these home remedies for dandruff few times a week.

 

Olive oil for hair

Olive oil works wonders to ward off scalp dryness and dandruff altogether. Massage your scalp with olive oil and then wrap a warm towel around your head for half an hour and wash your hair properly.

While massaging make sure that you do it slowly and with your finger tips without harming your hair. If you intend to do it roughly, this can even create roughness on your hair and make your hair to fall out.

 

Indian Lilac (Neem)

Indian lilac/Neem has been used as a medicine for its natural antiseptic properties. Make a thick paste by grinding neem leaves in a food processor and apply this paste to the scalp and leave for 10 minutes then wash off with water.

Leaves of neem can also be boiled in water and the water can be used for washing hair. This method is equally effective in keeping dandruff at bay.

 

Coconut oil for hair

Coconut oil helps eliminate dandruff due to its anti-fungal properties. It also moisturises dry scalp and provides relief from itching.

Take some coconut oil and mix half the amount of lemon juice in it. Rub it on your scalp and massage for a few minutes. Wash your hair after at least 20 minutes. Do this for two to three times a week.

 

Aloe vera gel for hair

Aloe vera gel is effective in keeping dandruff in-check. Apart from its anti-fungal properties, it also is soothing to the scalp and keeps itching at bay. Simply massage the gel on your scalp and let it stay for 30 minutes. Make sure your hair isn’t oiled. Wash with plain water or mild shampoo.

 

Tea tree Oil

Tea tree oil is great for hair and it smells wonderful too. Apply a small amount of this oil to the flaky patches. Leave it on for 5 minutes and wash off. Repeat this 2-3 times for a week.
